The moving “Broadway-style production” showcased Torah learning through song, dance and pasukim (verses) straight from the Chumash…all b’Ivrit – in Hebrew. Guests in the audience were oohing and ahing throughout the performance. After all, this was no ordinary Chagigat Chumash Presentation. This was Scheck Hillel Community School’s Grade 2 taking a longtime school tradition to new heights Tuesday.
“It was a very magical, meaningful, educational and inspirational morning here at Scheck Hillel,” said Rabbi Meir Wexler, Director of Judaic Studies, Grades 1-8. “Our second graders were incredible!”
Building upon many years of beautiful Chagigat Chumash Presentations, this year’s annual event included an expanded script and more song. After the grade-wide production of 68 students on stage, the children individually received their very own Chumashim from their teachers, with kvelling parents, siblings, grandparents and teachers beaming with joy as they shared the special moment.
“Events like the Chagigat Chumash Presentation really define the essence of Scheck Hillel Community School,” said Yuval Miara, Director of Hebrew Language for Grades 1-8.
Special thanks to our Juda and Maria Diener Lower School faculty who co-directed this beautiful morning: Rachel Levana, Sarah Goldman, Meytal Miara, Ofra Sharabani, Janet Kopel, Melissa Burger, Jess Olson, Sandra Gruskin and Michelle Kalusetsky. Thanks also go to the school’s Bnot Sherut Moriah Gelband and Shaked Galam for their help and support, to Aaron Margolis for his theater tech production, and to Rosa Benattia for her beautiful showcase of student artwork.
