The moment you arrived on campus this morning, you felt like you were transported to Jerusalem; campus had been transformed for Yom Yerushalayim, complete with our very own Scheck Hillel Kotel!
The Yom Yerushalayim excitement began first thing in the morning, when students were greeted at carpool by teachers waiving oversized Israeli flags. The Israeli spirit continued during tefilah and during a special Yom Yerushalayim play performed by our Grade 3 students. Parents even joined the celebration, attending the Grade 3 show and making havdalah candles with their children. A highlight of the day was when students placed personal notes in the Scheck Hillel Kotel modeling what we do in Yerushalayim.
A special thanks to Shaked and Moriah, Scheck Hillel Community School’s B’not Sherut Leumi, for arranging Yom Yerushalyim programming that was both fun and educational. The B’not Sherut Leumi led a game, which taught our Juda and Maria Diener Lower School students about popular places in Jerusalem, such as the Knesset, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo and the Shuk.
Our Grade 9 students, currently in Israel, had the unique opportunity of celebrating Yom Yerushalayim in the Old City; they were even part of Israel’s Yom Yerushalayim parade! Whether you celebrated in Miami, Israel or somewhere in between, we wish everyone a Yom Yerushalayim Sameach.
