The beautiful thing about Judaism is that its culture and traditions transcend generations. It is during community meal site visits, when youngsters visit with senior citizens, that this notion truly comes alive. Some ten times a year, Scheck Hillel's early childhood students join seniors at Jewish Community Services' meal site at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, where the children sing, entertain and bond with the adults.
"Moms and teachers are amazed to see how the tunes seamlessly bridge the age gap and unify the entire group in harmony. Goosebumps are often felt by all as the preschoolers kiss and hug the many Holocaust survivors and other elderly – many rarely see family members who live in the Northeast," said Sandra Levy, a Scheck Hillel mom, alumna and our Admissions Associate.
A special thanks to Jewish Community Services of South Florida for featuring this amazing experience in their Community Spotlight. We look forward to continuing meal site visits in the 2014-15 school year. In the meantime, check out the 2013-14 meal site recap video here.
