Along with two other Jaime and Raquel Gilinski Hillel Ambassadors, I was offered the unique opportunity to represent Scheck
Our first mini mission consisted upon visiting the Kosher Food Bank, serving lunch to senior citizens, and seeing the new JCC. The seniors that we served may have been getting their only meal of the day, so it was very touching. It was nice for them to interact with the young people of the society, and it was nice for us to learn their life stories and hear their adventures.
Last Thursday, we went on our final mini mission. We visited a hospital that Federation helps. There, we did some sports with the patients, and made cards with them. I worked with a 72 year old woman named Catalina. She had trouble walking, and was there for rehab. Since she barely sees her son, she made a card for him. I was so happy to see that they have the opportunity to go to such a day care. If they were not there, someone else would have to take care of them, and they might not be able to get the care and love that they receive where they are.
Our last stop before heading back to the federation was the Federation Towers. It is an assisted living building for senior citizens. We interacted with some residents while they ate a hot lunch. I sat with two elderly men, one of whom served in the IDF in the Independence War. Thanks to people like him, we have the beautiful state of Israel today. I felt a great sense of gratitude towards him, and was extremely grateful to get the privilege to speak with him and show him that we care about him and his service.
All in all, working with the Federation was a remarkable experience. I send my thanks to Dr. Chaset, whom accompanied us throughout the missions and offered her support and wisdom. She made the experience all the more meaningful As always, it's a pleasure to be involved in such events.
