We welcome B’not Sherut, Shachaf and Hadas to Scheck Hillel! They are serving in the Sherut Leumi, Israel’s National Service, and we are fortunate to have them on campus for this school year. Through classroom instruction, specifically in Hebrew language and Judaic Studies, our B’not Sherutenhance our school’s Jewish identity and our students’ connection to Israel. We took a few minutes to get to know the girls...
Q: What are you most looking forward to during your time at Scheck Hillel?
Shachaf: I am excited about meeting all of the kids and doing cool activities with them that teach them about Israel.
Hadas: I look forward to getting to know all of the students, and to work closely with the teachers.
Q: In one word, what was your first impression of Scheck Hillel?
Shachaf: Perfect
Hadas: Family
Q: What are you hoping to accomplish during your time here at Scheck Hillel?
Shachaf: Through the Sherut Leumi proram, we are representing Orthdox women in Israel, so I think it is important to teach the children about Israel through stories of Tanakh and Am Yisrael.
Hadas: I hope to teach the students a lot about Israel and Judaism, and to connect them to Israel by creating Israeli environments durim chagim and school ceremonies.
Q: What were you doing in Israel prior to coming to Miami and Scheck Hillel?
Shachaf & Hadas: We were both teaching together in Ofkim, a small city in Israel. We are excited to be working together again this year!
Q: What about Israel do you love the most that you are excited to share with our students?
Shachaf: I love that when you live in Israel you are so close to holy places like the Kotel and Tzfat. Israel represents the past, the present and the future, and I can't wait to share all of that with the students.
Hadas: In Israel, you constantly feel that you belong to something bigger than yourself. I want to share that feeling of togetherness with the Scheck Hillel students.
Make sure to give a warm welcome to Shachaf and Hadas when you see them on campus!
