On September 11, 2015, Scheck Hillel Community School remembered the tragic events of 9/11 and those who lost their lives 14 years ago today. In a morning gathering of all Grades 8-12, our Jordan Alexander Ressler Arts Program Band and Drum Line performed patriotic songs, followed by faculty remarks from Rabbi Shmuel Druin, Rabbi Yaakov Boyd and Jennifer Fetchko who each shared personal 9/11 experiences in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. The memorial ceremony concluded with remarks from Rabbi Joshua Spodek, Head of Judaics and Hebrew Language, who urged all to live every day to its fullest, particularly as we prepare to step into Rosh Hashanah and Yom HaDin.
Today, the school’s Israeli flag accompanies the American flag, lowered to half-mast together, to symbolize the school’s pride as Americans and as members of Klal Yisrael.
Never forget. May we always remember.
