Veterans Day allows us the opportunity to show our appreciation for the tremendous contributions veterans have made, which enable so many of the rights and freedoms we enjoy every day. Since parent-teacher conferences took place of classroom learning today, students were proud to join together earlier this week in celebration of Veterans Day.
During a special presentation on Monday devoted to this holiday, students heard from Ben Magidson, our Dean of Students, and Tony Arbisi, our Kitchen Manager, who shared their experiences serving in Iraq and Vietnam, respectively. On Monday and Tuesday there was also special tefilah for Veterans Day, and classroom discussions about the special prayer we recite on Shabbat for the safety of the American Military Forces. Through first-person stories and recollections, this presentation reminds students of the ways men and women have sacrificed their time with family, their sense of security, and often, their lives – in the service of the freedoms all Americans hold dear.
