Learn about Scheck Hillel’s 2013-2014 After-School Program for rising Grade 1-12 students Tuesday, June 4, at your choice of 8 am or 7 pm. Our morning session will be held in our Kunin Library Media Center, and our evening session will be held in our Rose and Lew Goodman Beit Midrash. From MindLab and Chess in Lower School to Arts and Athletics in all grades, a range of options will be offered in the fall. An annual fee will allow for a most comprehensive program. June 4 is simply information; registration will open in August.
Students who will be in Grades 1-5 are invited to a demo Mind Lab class: Wednesday, June 5, immediately after school. Through play, Mind Lab engages students, teaches them how to be efficient learners, and allows them the opportunity to transfer learning to real life. It is designed to strengthen a student’s ability to think constructively and reflectively. Additionally, Mind Lab focuses on three essential domains:
Social: Teamwork and cooperation, competition, communicating effectively, respecting rules, acceptance of others
Emotional: Managing emotions, deferring gratification, perseverance, self-discipline
Cognitive: Problem solving, decision making, logical thinking
Our June 4 information sessions will present information and details about each program within Arts (i.e. visual art, musical theatre, violin, band and more), Athletics (i.e. soccer, basketball, football and more) and MindLab (MindLab and Chess). For information prior to June 4, feel free to contact Aaron Margolis, Fine Arts Coordinator;Cindy Lyon, Athletics Director; or Monica Wagenberg, Incoming Head of Lower School.
