On August 27, Rabbi Steven Weil, Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union, addressed Scheck Hillel Community School’s Grades 9-12 about global current events within remarks about preparing for Rosh Hashanah. He was introduced by Hillel’s Rosh Beit Midrash Rabbi Uri Pilichowski, who considers Rabbi Weil a mentor and friend.
“Rabbi Weil's unique style of charging his listeners to greater heights fits perfectly with the mission of Scheck Hillel Community School, where students strive to better themselves and their community,” Rabbi Pilichowski told the OU.
Rabbi Weil grew up in New York and attended Yeshiva University and NYU's Stern School of Business. He served as Rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverley Hills prior to his leadership role at the OU. Rabbi Weil has delivered invocations for many politicians, including President George Bush. He has been described as ‘committed to the traditional and sacred liturgy while simultaneously zeroing in on the most relevant challenges confronting modern man.” A true reflection of Hillel’s program to offer relevant, meaningful Jewish educational experiences.
Special thanks to Rabbi Weil, as well as to Rabbi Pilichowski. As with all esteemed guest speakers and friends, Hillel was honored to welcome Rabbi Weil to campus upon the start of the new year.
