March 14 is PI day!

Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and it’s ALWAYS the same amazing number that begins with 3.14. Because of this, we celebrate “Pi Day” every March 14  (03/14).

We sliced into this year’s celebration with Kindergarten-Grade 5 gathering outside to stand tall and spell out 'π = 3.14’ as a student body. After that, Kindergarten-Grade 8 students shared various Pi curriculum activities in math class. Some calculated Pi using circular objects to create Pi bracelets. Kindergarten made circular-shaped masks to celebrate Pi as well Chag Purim!

Grades 6-8 shared a pizza pie lunch with some teachers participating in a surprise pie-eating contest (no winners J). Right after lunch, they explored campus through their Pi scavenger hunt. activities of the hunt included iPad exploration of pi questions as well as hunting corners of campus to illustrate Pi in a photograph. The day was topped off with it ALSO being Albert Einstein’s birthday! Albert Einstein visited Kindergarten to join in the birthday/Pi Day fun. (Thank you to Steven Eisanman , Grade 10!)

Special thanks to our math faculty for producing such a fun, interactive, memorable Pi Day: Jamay BaezJill BloomErica FaragoNatalie Gurland and Jacquie Kapnek. Here’s to 3.14.15 - next year’s super fun date for Pi Day ’15!
