To preserve our future, we must remember our past. 47 Scheck Hillel students participating in the March of the Living, are doing just that. This Yom HaShoah they represented our community in Poland as they marched, alongside Holocaust survivors, down the path leading from Auschwitz to Birkenau.
As part of our promise to “Never Forget,” several Yom HaShoah programs also took place here on campus. Last week, students from the senior class visited the Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation where they discussed the history of the Holocaust and examined the roots of prejudice, intolerance, and hate. Members of the National Honors Society created impactful Yom HaShoah posters, which were hung around the school and detailed a timeline of events from 1933-1945. Additionally, members of the NHS organized a powerful and effective Yom HaShoah ceremony, which was attended by Grade 9-12 students this morning.
We were fortunate enough to have two Holocaust survivors join us on campus and share their emotional stories. A special thanks to Mr. Alex Gross and Ms. Anita Karl for taking the time to share their journeys with us and for imparting on us their positive attitudes and joyous spirits.
