It was a memorable morning, February 22, at Scheck Hillel Community School, when Grade 1 students received their very own siddurim in what has become a longstanding Scheck Hillel tradition! This year’s Chagigat HaSiddur featured ruach and talent in an amazing production of music, songs and dialogue (all spoken in Ivrit).
Giving every student his or her own Siddur to keep for a lifetime is a demonstration of the meaningful religious and cultural experiences that Scheck Hillel’s mission outlines, so we as a school community may instill strong Jewish identities in our youngest generation. The Siddur Presentation brought nachat to parents, siblings, grandparents, great-grandparents, teachers, and administration, as well as to Scheck Hillel founders, lay leaders and past presidents, and South Florida rabbis who joined us to celebrate this milestone.
"It was clear from this morning's beautiful Siddur Presentation that our children are learning how to connect to Hashem and how to use the siddur for the rest of their lives in our language of Hebrew," said Rabbi Joshua Spodek, Head of Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language.
Special thanks to our Juda and Maria Diener Lower School morot who co-directed this dazzling performance: Rachel Levana, Sarah Goldman and Meytal Miara, as well as to Grade 1 morot Leanne Weinbrot, Hani Cohen-Dinetz, Cheryl Cooper, Irina Goman-Weinshel, Joanna Slochowski, Samantha Bernstein, Dganit Penias, Michelle Levy and Ofra Sharabani. Thanks also go to the school’s B'not Sherut Heela Pitem and Tamar Sabah for their help and Aaron Margolis and AJ Oberlender for theater support. And a very special shout out to Scheck Hillel's 'principal for the day', David Marcovitz (Grade 2), for welcoming the crowd and for assisting Rabbi Spodek with delivering the closing remarks.
