This past summer, as I watched my beloved U.S Men’s National Soccer team attempt to push deeper into the World Cup playoffs, I reflected on how this great game, and how athletics in general, have touched the lives of millions around the world. Almost every country in the world has a professional or national soccer team to support, and here, at Scheck Hillel Community School, we have our very own. Athletics signifies so many things: teamwork, effort, dedication, commitment and success, and our student-athletes have proven to exude these characteristics and virtues time and time again.
In the past five years, our boys' varsity soccer team has accomplished so much and, today, is the only Jewish school in Florida to compete at this competitive level. This year, with the support of all of you, we hope to accomplish even more, as we perform in front of our fans of all ages, media and the community. We ask for your steadfast support and encouragement of your Scheck Hillel Lions this Saturday, January 24, at 8pm when we will host and play in the district championship game.
Sports have brought so much of the world together. Let it bring our community together and make it even stronger as we come together for these 22 Scheck Hillel student-athletes – for our nearly 1,100 students – who demonstrate on the field the core Jewish values we teach on a daily basis.
Thank you for your support and we cannot wait to see you in the stands on Saturday evening.
