Arts is for Life and Leadership: Part 1

A recent Edutopia article confirms what we already know: art prepares students for life and leadership. Over the next seven weeks, our Shabbat Shalom Message will expound upon Edutopia's seven ways the arts give students skills to become great leaders. beginning this week with creativity.  "Creativity is not just about expression and aesthetics, but also about problem solving. While other disciplines encourage creative solutions to solving problems, the arts seek to find solutions beyond our consensual understanding of the problem, pushing against the margins of what might be provable." Our Jordan Alexander Arts Program curricula promote problem solving PK4-Grade 12. For instance, ECE classes have been sharpening their sensory and fine motor skills by working with clay and lacing beads onto string. For their little fingers, lacing beads can be somewhat challeging and requires them to problem solve in order to find the easiest means of doing so. Their finished products are now on display in the new Lower School arts display case. For more arts resources, click here
