Part 2: Art is for Risk-TakingEdutopia asserts that "If we expect our students to be truly creative and seek out those new ideas and sensibilities, we must encourage and reward taking risks." Our Jordan Alexander Ressler Arts Program does just that; case in point, Thursday's Solo and Ensemble performances. The District 20 Solo and Ensemble provides students the opportunity to perform, for a score, as a soloist in front of a state certified judge. To perform alone in front of a judge takes courage, but that's what's so rewarding about the arts - it gives students the ability and the confidence to do new and unorthodox things. This year, 12 students performed on instruments ranging from the snare drum to the alto saxophone. Check back here next week for Solo and Ensemble results, as well as Part 3 of our Edutopia series.
